Fannie Ruth Carver Harper, 90, of Jacksonville, FL passed away peacefully on 10/13/2020 from a long battle with dementia. She was a cherished Wife, loving Mother, and the best Grandmother and Great Grandmother you could ever want or have. Ruth was born to wonderful parents, Alfred and Ruby Batten Carver, on March, 17th, 1930 in Douglas Georgia. She was raised with three brothers, Wilbert, Lebern and Grady. At the age of 17, Ruth eloped with her sweetheart, Sibbett Harper, to a neighboring town, Pearson, Georgia to tie the knot. After marrying, they moved to MacClenny, Florida and Ruth decided on her career, a beautician. She attended school and worked locally in MacClenny before moving to Jacksonville. She and Sib moved to Marietta and opened a salon, Sib and Ruth’s Beauty Shop. First in their home, then to Hwy 90, then to Lakeland Street. She was a hairdresser for 38 years before retiring in 1987 to spend time enjoying her home and family. She was also owner of HiWay Market on Sunbeam and Phillips Hwy on the southside of Jacksonville. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, Sib, her parents and brothers Wilbert and Lebern Carver. She is survived by two daughters, Renee (Ronnie) Dorminey of Jacksonville and Sybil (Billy) Purvis of Callahan; 5 grandchildren, Blake, Dusty, Winnie, Betsey and Maddison, all of whom she loved and adored. She also leaves 6 great grands, Harlyn, Clara, Davis, Cain, Will and Glo. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Jacksonville and a member of Janet McKinney’s Sunday School Class. She enjoyed working in her home, gardening and entertaining family. We would especially like to thank Dorothy and Carlotta for many devoted years given to care for Ruth. She loved them and they loved her. Also, a special thank you to Johnson, Tamara and Jackie who were a daily caregiver for her as well…you will never know how much you were appreciated.
