David “Dave” Lee Goodwin, age 80, passed away on Saturday, November 14, 2020 after a courageous battle against cancer. He was surrounded by family members that loved him and will miss him dearly.
Dave had a large family that he enjoyed spending time with, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was an honest, kind and very giving man. Dave was always willing to lend a helping hand. He had many friends that loved and admired him.
Dave loved to laugh and pull pranks any chance that he could because he was such a big kid at heart. He was an avid fisherman, hunter, gardener and he built amazing things with his hands. He enjoyed playing cards and was always looking for antiques to add to his collection. Dave was a faithful donor for many years to St. Jude’s and Shriner’s Children’s Hospitals.
Dave was born February 19, 1940 in Wallins Creek, Kentucky. He was preceded in death by his parents Harold and Opal Goodwin and 4 siblings Jim Blanken, Bill Goodwin, Don Goodwin and Brenda Sapp. He is survived by 6 children- Harold Goodwin, Patricia Goodwin, Diana Gilbride (Danny), Debra Wood (Mickey), Loretta Bishop (Hank) and Barbara York (Jay). 15 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, 4 siblings – Linda Hawk (Sam), Micheal Goodwin (Kathy), Gloria Fletcher (Jerry), Joe Goodwin (Vicky) and many nieces and nephews.
Dave touched so many lives and he will be missed by many, but the love and lessons that he taught will be remembered and carried on for many generations.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, November 19, 2020 at 11:00am at Fraser Funeral Home, 8168 Normandy Blvd., Jacksonville, FL 32221. The family will receive friends and family one hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations to be made in his name go to St. Judes’s and/or Shriner’s Children’s Hospitals.
