Lawrence Duane Williams, age 70, of Middleburg, FL, passed away January 9, 2021 after a sudden illness with his family by his side.
He was born in Jacksonville Florida at Saint Luke’s Hospital to the late Frank M Williams and Ethel Lane Williams on December 19, 1950. He was the first of three children.
Duane was a graduate of Paxon High and worked for the city of Jacksonville Public Works for nearly 30 years.
L.D., as he was known at work, was a tree foreman for many years until he suffered a serious injury while working.
Even though, at that time, his injuries were the highest level of injury the city had reported he did not let that stop him. After a long hospitalization, rehabilitation and retraining he was able to return to work with the city as a small engine repairman. This speaks volumes of Duane’s character, values and determination.
He was an avid hunter and loved being in the woods. He loved his family, friends and church of which he was a member for many years of Westside Baptist and more recently Black Pond Baptist.
He was preceded in death by his father Frank M Williams and daughter Effie Williams Ratley.
He is survived by his wife Joy Jowers Williams, his mother Ethel Williams, son Shawn Williams, sister Laura (Ron) Roberts, brother Scott (Angela) Williams, three grandchildren Aiden Ratley, Noah Williams and James Williams, aunts, nephews, nieces, cousins and many friends.

Services will be held on Saturday, January 16, 2021 at Westside Baptist Church 7775 Herlong Rd, Jacksonville FL. Visitation will begin @ 10:00 with memorial services to follow at 11:00. Graveside service for family will be held on Monday.

My condolences to the entire family, especially to my good friend, Joy. My heart hurts most for her. Duane is free of the shackles of his physical body but will always carry the love with him in his heart and spirit. God bless him.
