The sunrise and sunset of the life of Connie Marie Bates.
But the path of the just is as the shining light, that shineth more and more unto the perfect day. -Proverbs 4:18
October 29, 1946 to March 2, 2021
The steps of a good man (woman) are ordered by the Lord: and he delighteth in his way. – Psalm 37:23
Connie was born October 29, 1946, to the late beloved God-fearing father, grandfather, and Pastor John A. Monk, and mother, grandmother, and first lady, Elennora Marie Monk, of the church they both founded and started, Mt. Zion Apostolic Church, in the township and community of West Portsmouth, Ohio where they ministered and served for Christ for over 50 years which Connie and her siblings were privileged and blessed to be an intricate part for soul winning. Connie was one of the 6 children raised by the Monk family. She was the 4th child of her 6 siblings starting with Violet Milstead (deceased) and husband Donald Milstead and their children and grandchildren, Douglas Monk (deceased) and wife Trula Monk (deceased), and their children and grandchildren, Eloise Mae Osborne and husband Paul Osborne (deceased), and their children and grandchildren, Connie Marie Bates (deceased) and husband William Edward Bates, Sr. (widower), and their children and grandchildren, Jacolyn A. Skidmore and husband Steve Skidmore, and their children and grandchildren, Ricky L. Monk and wife, and their children and grandchildren. Connie after having completed high school would go on to marry the one and only man and love of her life, William Edward Bates, Sr., and have 3 children, Dewana Marie Bates (deceased at 6 months after birth), William Edward Bates, Jr. “Billy”, Sonja LeAnn Bates. The Bate’s son Billy would later marry Stephanie Marie White, daughter-in-law and produce 3 grandchildren in the person of Samantha Nicole Bates, Oliva Aoife Morgan Bates and Sophia Eleanor Bates and Connie and William’s only living daughter would marry Joel Newsome, Jr. and parent their 2 children, DeJwan Anthony Bates (Newsome) and Joelle LeAnn Bates (Newsome). Mr. and Mrs. William Edward Bates, Sr., after many years of residing in Princeton/Bluefiled, West Virginia, moved to Jacksonville, Florida in the winter of 2000 where after working another 12 years. Connie retired from Publix supermarket and spent the remaining years of her life caring for her disabled husband. It was during this time when Connie herself would take ill and would succumb to failing health and a broken body of which her beloved and only daughter, Sonja LeAnn Newsome, so diligently attended her night and day, until God and Christ received her spirit and gave her soul rest until that great resurrection morning when their dead sin Christ shall rise up ever to be their blessed Lord forevermore. To this end we will greatly miss her and trust God’s sunset on our lives. To this end we commit Connie’s body, soul and spirit in the arms of Christ.
I will bless the Lord at all times: his praise shall continually be in my mouth. -Psalms 34:1
