Our family patriarch, Lloyd Castillian Fleming, passed away on Sunday, May 20, 2023, at his home in Jacksonville, Florida. He was 99 years old. His passing was peaceful from natural causes. He was born in Bullard, Florida, on September 7, 1923. His parents were Lawrence Albert Fleming and Mary Etta Drake Fleming. He graduated from Munson High School, where he was a star athlete. Lloyd joined the Navy in 1941, where he served with distinction during World War II. After receiving his honorable discharge, he went to work for US Naval Civil Service, where he remained for 30 years. Once he retired, he became a successful entrepreneur and investor. Lloyd was always an active leader and teacher in his church and enjoyed coaching and playing on the church’s softball team for many years. He was also an avid hunter and fisherman, being very proud of his skills in those hobbies. Above all else, Lloyd was devoted to his family and was always a source of good advice and help when needed. He married his wife, Elouise Thornton Fleming in 1945, and they remained married until her death in 2006. They had two children: their son, David Lawrence Fleming, and their daughter, Linda Diane McDonald, who is now deceased. Lloyd and Elouise subsequently adopted Linda’s daughter, Tanya Michelle Fleming. He was proud that he was able to put his son David through law school. David has two children, Christopher Fleming, and Jennifer Gross, who has a daughter, Janessa. Tanya has two sons, Dylan Jeffrey Fleming, and Dustin Kyle Fleming, who has a son Nathan. In addition to Tanya, Linda had a son, Jeffrey McDonald, who is deceased and was survived by numerous children and grandchildren. Lloyd’s funeral will be held at 1:00 pm, on Tuesday, May 30, 2023, at Fraser Funeral Home, 8168 Normandy Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32221, with a graveside service to follow. Family friend, Pastor Terry Moore, will officiate, and the eulogy will be given by Elouise’s brother, Wayne Thornton. There will be a viewing, beginning at 11:00 am. The family requests that, in lieu of a flower donation, a charitable donation be made in Lloyd’s name to The Tom Coughlin Jay Fund https://tcjayfund.org/

David and family
What a complete joy to have known your dad. I enjoyed our visits together over at Dylans. Mr. Lloyd shared many memories of him growing up. Many I had never known. He and my daddy Jack Silver killed 1034 quail in one season. He was so proud of that and his marksmanship.
May he be resting in the arms of Jesus feeling no more pain. He told me he had a good life. May this be a comfort to your heart.
I loved him and your mother Elouise. You’ll always be family to me, David/brother. ❤
