Mary Jane Horton, 79, went to Heaven surrounded by those who love her dearly in the late evening hours of March 11, 2023.
Jane was born on February 22, 1944, in Knoxville, Tennessee to the parents Carl Beal Sr. and Louise Forman. As a child she moved down to Florida along with her parents, brother, and sisters. She loved to play outdoors, if it was raining you would find her inside reading a new book. She loved gardening and plants; she always had a rose bush and aloe plant. Her favorite animal is a rooster. Her whole kitchen was decorated in them, and she had hidden ones all over her home. She was also “THE” deviled egg maker at all family events and had so many dishes for them.
Jane had three children, Frankie Vann, Gail Vann, and was preceded in death by Ricky Vann. She was always caring and surrounded her children with love and taught them to be a light in the world. She set an example of a good Christian woman for her two sons and daughter, along with anyone else she came into contact with.
Jane married Kevin in 1987. When you saw him, you saw her, they were always together and showing what true love looks like. They were lifelong companions. Together they helped raise their grandchildren, Tiffany Benton, Niki Martin and Robin Luna.
Jane was not only a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother but she was active in church and helping lead children to Jesus. When she wasn’t in children’s church, she was watching over seven children for family friends and helping them grow to know right from wrong. She graduated college with a degree in Medical Coding and took on the role of care giver to her mom until she passed along with her husband’s mom until she went in a home. She enjoyed going on her “5 mile” walk every morning until she was physically unable.
Jane leaves behind her husband of 35 years, Kevin, her three children, Frankie, Gail, and late Ricky, her grandchildren, Tiffany, Niki, Robin, and Rose, along with her eleven great-grandchildren. She leaves behind memories of a loving family. As you think of her, remember the smile she always had, the advice she always gave, and the Bottle of Dr. Pepper she always drank.
Funeral services will be held, Monday, March 20, 2023, at 2:00 pm. at Restoration Baptist Church, 9714 Ridge Blvd., Jacksonville, FL 32208 with Rev. Doyle Harper officiating followed by interment in Gethsemane Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 800 Hammond Blvd., Jacksonville, FL 32221. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.
