Timothy Taylor Stewart

July 29, 1946~February 19, 2023

On February 19, 2023, Timothy Taylor Stewart died in Jacksonville, Florida after a long battle with pulmonary fibrosis. He was 76 years old.

Tim is survived by his wife, Joyce; his children Tommy Butler (Tammie), Kerri Stewart Hall (Sean), Tim Butler (Donna) and Kelli Ramirez (Richard); his siblings Barbara Ross of Kansas City, Thomas ‘Buddy’ Stewart of Atlanta and Harriett Sparkman (Buddy) of Jacksonville; his grandchildren Marley Farhat, Justin Ramirez (Erica), Mallory Ramirez, Dalton Butler (Lauren), Emily Hall and Tyler Schubert; and three great-grandsons Eli, Quinn and Kade. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carey and Mabel Stewart, and his daughter Tonya Michel. Tim was also preceded in death by his first wife of 30 years, Wanda.

Tim was born on July 29, 1946 in Jacksonville, Florida. He graduated from Paxon High School in 1964. He went on to serve in the Marine Corps Reserve for 6 years and retired after 47 years of safe driving from Southern Bell/BellSouth/AT&T. He was a telephone man through and through.

Tim, Mr. Tim or PopPop loved spending time with his family – especially his grandchildren and great grandsons. He loved NASCAR, football, softball and any sport Florida State competed in. He fed the many birds, guineas and feral cats that visited his yard. He humanely relocated any squirrel that dare try to interfere with the daily feeding schedule. He was affectionately known as the ‘Squirrel Whisperer’. He was a master-recycler and all-around-world-class piddler.

Visitation will start at 10:00 a.m. at Jones Road Baptist Church, 2506 Jones Road, Jacksonville, Florida 32220. A memorial service for Tim is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. at Jones Road Baptist Church. The family will receive guests at a luncheon immediately following the service in the Fellowship Hall at Jones Road Baptist Church. A graveside burial ceremony will take place at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, February 27, 2023 at Riverside Memorial Park, 7242 Normandy Blvd, Jacksonville, Florida 32205.

I got to know Tim “Pop” Stewart in 2011. It immediately became clear that he was different. Always level headed, calm during the storm, consistently able to make good decisions regardless of the circumstances. Always a kind word, good thoughts and good deeds towards all. A one of a kind … uncommon wisdom that he shared with a gentle spirit. A class act at all times and under all circumstances. His passing represents a loss to so many in so many ways. A class act that I for one will dearly and genuinely miss.
