Carl Fay Mitchell Jr (Mitch) age 88, passed away December 2, 2020. Mitch was a resident of Jacksonville, Fl since 1963. He was a Marine and after moving to Jacksonville, retired from Coca-Cola Bottling Co. He was preceded in death by his Father, Carl Fay Mitchell Sr, Mother, Marie Rutter Mitchell and his wife of 65 years Barbara Louise Mitchell.
He is survived by his children, Debbie, Don (Kim), David (Mary), Dan (Robin), Seven grandchildren, Jonathan (Ashley), Lacey, Chase (Katie) Zack (Lanier), Andrew, Keith and Wendy. Five Great Grandchildren, Allison, Addison, Joshua, James and Charlotte. A niece, Carolyn Couch.
Mitch’s greatest love was being a Marine, his ‘62 Chevy Impala, cherry pie and chocolate covered peanuts. His favorite attire was a white t-shirt, white boxers, his black leather boots and a stub of a cigar that was never lit. He loved playing board games and cards. He made his own rules, cheated and would laugh so hard when you called him out on it. He never let you win. His best life was living in Independence, Mo with the closest of friends, Bobbie and Jerry Turner, Penny and Don Ricketson. He loved having get togethers with the Masks, Fitchetts and the Gordons. He had so many good times with his buddies Bobby Jo Jackson and Bill Plaster. Dad loved college football and bantering with Uncle Adolphus over every Fl/Ga game. He loved the arguing more than the game. Dad was ornery, sarcastic but so funny. He was a man of few words, but when he spoke you listened. He thought a hammer, screwdriver and duct tape could fix anything. He painted his tiny little bathroom fire engine red because he loved the color red. He loved John Wayne movies, a good steak and an ice-cold beer. He loved being around his kids and grandchildren. He always had a story to tell. Dad taught us to respect everyone. He always pulled for the underdog. He taught us to have a good work ethic. He taught us not to judge. Mitch was a good man. He worked hard and played even harder. He fought a good fight until the end. Dementia was a battle he couldn’t win. He knew it and surrendered peacefully.
