Murrell “Christine” Harget, 94 was born on September 6, 1928 and peacefully passed away on December 31, 2022. Her husband, Bruce W. Harget passed away from leukemia on December 28, 2003. Christine was born to parents, Rev. O.V. and Mary Eva Brown, both deceased, in Patterson, GA.
Christine is survived by her daughters, Gail (Tom) Smith and Eva (Carl) Douglas; and grandchildren, Renee’ Mantia (John Hagberg) and Collin (Heather) Douglas. She was predeceased by all her siblings, Estelle Varnadore, Ethel Roberson, Thelma Heath, Louise Lee, Inez Taylor, Dorothy “Dot” Miller, Elsie McClaugherty, James “Jake” Brown. She was also predeceased by two stillborn sons.
Christine lived in several places before she and Bruce put down roots in Jacksonville, FL in 1956. She was a homemaker for many years and then helped run Harget’s Superette for many years with our Dad. Their business had customers come from all over town for Dad’s custom cut meats. They moved to Penney Farms from 1974 before returning to Jacksonville in 1985.
Funeral services will be held at Westside Baptist Church, 7775 Herlong Road, Jacksonville, FL on Thursday, January 5 at 11:00 AM. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM prior to the service. A private family interment will take place at Arlington Cemetery later in the day.
