Clarence “Pete” Walter Moore, born December 6, 1944 in Nashville, Georgia, passed away Thursday May 19, 2022 at Ascension St. Vincent’s Riverside Hospital in Jacksonville, Florida.
Pete attended school until the 9th grade when he began working as a share cropper to help support his family. He continued farming until he got a job at the ship yard in Jacksonville, Florida. He became a very skilled welder and traveled the world working on ships. He eventually started working at NAS Cecil Field and retired as a HVAC maintenance supervisor at NAS Jacksonville.
He met Annette Hickox in 1963. After a two-week courtship that included a date to the Daytona 500, Pete and Annette were married in Folkston, Georgia on September 30, 1963. They lived in an apartment above the garage of Annette’s parent’s home until they built a home next door. Later they moved to a new home on Old Plank Road where they raised their two children and lived for 39 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and anything that involved the use of one of his three farm tractors. He and Annette enjoyed cooking and gardening together.
He was a member of Faith Memorial Baptist Church for many years. Later he attended Old Plank Road Baptist Church where he and Annette participated in many church functions that usually included some of their delicious southern foods.
He was predeceased by his wife of 56 years, Annette Moore; his parents, Clarence Moore and Brunell C. Moore; three sisters, Nita Pattillo, Ava Nell Holland and Clarice Moore.
Pete is survived by his children Wayne Anthony Moore (wife, Cindy) and Diana Gail Walden (husband, Ray); his eight grandchildren and eleven great-grand children.
Visitation with the family will be at 10 a.m. on Monday May 23, 2022 at Old Plank Road Baptist Church, 8964 Old Plank Road followed by funeral services at 11 a.m. with Pastor Lawrence McGinley officiating. Interment to follow at Riverside Memorial Park, 7242 Normandy Boulevard.
