Emerita Rivera Toranzo – A loving Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, Sister, Aunt, Cousin and Friend went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ in Heaven on December 30, 2021. Emerita was born to Rafael Marrero and Constanza Marrero in Jayuya, Puerto Rico, and was the sister of 25 siblings.
Emerita loved to sing and praise the Lord and was a very strong believer. She loved spending time with all of her family. She was always surrounded by the people she loved. She was known for her hospitality and her enormous heart. She would give you the shirt off her back, even if that meant she would go without and always had an open door for everyone. She will always be remembered for the love she gave. This was imprinted in the hearts of each and every one of us.
Emerita was survived by her four children: John Gregory, Blas Rivera (Kimberly Rivera), Christine Gregory and Rozalia Marshall and preceded in death by her two sons Kenneth Gregory and Juan Acevedo. She had many grandchildren, and these were some of them: Taina Gregory, Jonathan Gregory, Salvador Ortiz, Cierra Buza, Solomon Rivera, Ciara Earrey, Shi-Ann Gregory, Kenneth Gregory III, Kayna Ross, Sophia Gregory, Stephen Gregory, Lindsay Acevedo and Lexie Acevedo. She was also a great grandmother to: Tyeon Ford, Jonathan Hall, Melvin Hall, Taniyah James, Brantley Ortiz, Ryleigh Ortiz, Colton Ortiz, Charles Ross III and Nashyda Ross. And a great-great-grandmother to Tyeona Ford. She had brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and others that were not blood related but she considered her very own that she loved immensely.
Emerita will never be forgotten, she has been an inspiration to everyone she met. She was gracious and kind and always funny.
Emerita will be laid to rest directly after the church service at Jacksonville Memory Gardens in Orange Park. Following that, there will be a home going celebration at 8436 Wagenhals Road, Jacksonville, FL 32210.
