Gerald Leo Wehrly (Jerry) passed away peacefully on January 10th, 2021. He was 85 years old. Jerry was a military veteran, having served 20 years in the United States Navy. He was a wonderful cook and Chef, and provided meals for the sailors on the USS Forrestal Aircraft Carrier, and other ships while serving in the Navy. After retirement, Jerry cooked meals for inmates at Raiford, now known as Union Correctional Institution. Jerry had a love of history, and could recite nearly every date and historical occurrence from World War I, World War II, and the US Civil War. He had a love of collecting historical and military memorabilia, and enjoyed firing his guns at the local firing range. Jerry was predeceased by his wife Anita, and is survived by his two children, Jacqueline Wehrly, and Richard L. Wehrly, as well as by his sister, Judith Condon, and his grandson/Richard J. Wehrly, niece/Julia Condon Venobre (Patrick), and nephew/Scott Condon (Susan).
Jerry’s cremated remains will be placed at rest at a future time.
The family asks that any donations be made in Jerry’s honor to The Jacksonville Humane Society.
