On Friday March 10th, 2023, Harvey Ed Gay of Jacksonville, Florida went home to be with his Lord and savior Jesus Christ. Harvey was born in Laurens County Georgia on June 3rd, 1943, to Alvin and Ruby (Yeomans) Gay.

Harvey attended school and graduated from Dodge County High School. Harvey worked with the railroad when he moved to Jacksonville, Florida and then the shipyards in Jacksonville and Mayport. Harvey then worked an apprenticeship with the Painters and Allied Traders. He was the past president of local #164 in Jacksonville. Harvey was also an instructor and Foreman for the International Job Corps in Gainesville and retired from the Union/Job Corps after fifteen years.

Harvey was an avid gardener and always shared the abundance with family and friends. He was a member of Franklin Street Baptist Church and was very involved with the building of keep. He loved to fish, and there was always plenty of fish being cooked in Marilyn’s kitchen. He mostly loved to go to the woods and hunt, preferably with his beloved son’s, precious granddaughter and grandson’s, dear family members, friends and neighbors.

Harvey is preceded in death by his parents, daughter Lana, Brother Jimmy and sister-in-law Terri Williams.

Left to honor his memory as his loving wife Marilyn (Ezzell); Sons Neil (Laura) and Jason (Debbie); grandchildren Amanda, Matthew, Colby, Colton, Kelsey, Rachel and Dewayne, (Lissley); Siblings Joyce, Shirley, Wanda, Linda, Barber, Debbie, and Velmer; Sister-in-law Jackie (Fred) Shiver; Brother-in-law John Williams and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Visitation will be Monday March 20th, 2023, from 6:00-8:00pm at Fraser Funeral Home, 8168 Normandy Boulevard Jacksonville, Florida. The funeral services will be held Tuesday March 21st, 2023, at 11:00am at Franklin Street Baptist Church, 2521 Franklin Street Jacksonville, Florida. Lunch will be offered by the church following the service. The burial will be at 2:30pm in Jacksonville Memory Gardens, 111 Blanding Boulevard Orange Park, Florida 32073.

Pastor and dear friend Terry Gore will be officiating the services for the family, and we are so grateful.

Neil and Laura, I am so sorry about your father’s passing. It is so difficult to lose a parent. I pray that you will feel the loving presence of Jesus Christ and can rest assured that he is in the arms of God. Betsy Harrington
