James Martin Downing Sr. “Martin” 43 passed away unexpectedly at St. Vincent’s hospital (Riverside) due to complications of MRSA on March 22, 2021.
Martin is survived by his mother, Naomi Jean Downing; his children James Martin Downing Jr. “Jamie”, Hunter James Downing and Katelyn Marie Downing. His grandchildren, Isabella Downing and Daniel Downing. His brothers, Daniel Roger (Shelby) Downing Jr. and Johnny Omega (Rhonda) Downing; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles. He is preceded in death by his father Daniel Roger Downing Sr.; Children, Walker James Downing and Faith Nichole Downing.
Martin was born March 18, 1978 to Daniel Roger downing Sr. and Naomi Jean (Collins) Downing in Orange Park, Fl.
Martin was an avid outdoorsmen and fisherman who as a teenager could be found bass fishing with friends in nearby ponds and lakes. He also loved to hunt where as a young man spent many nights wading through swamps in pursuit of raccoons with friends and family. As a young adult he would be found in the woods hunting Whitetail deer.
Martin was accomplished in many things; he was a certified welder, held a CDL license, spent many years in management at an industrial manufacturing and supply company, Samson Industrial and for a short time ran his own business as a trim carpenter. He was a very skilled individual and could accomplish about anything he set out to do. He never met a stranger and was sure to put a smile on your face or make you laugh with every encounter. He will be deeply missed by family, friends and all who knew him until we are reunited in heaven.
A viewing will be held for family and friends on March 31, 2021 between the hours of 6:00-8:00pm at Fraser Funeral Home, 8168 Normandy Blvd., Jacksonville, FL 32221.
Funeral services for Martin Downing will be held on April 1, 2021 10:00am at Jones Road Baptist Church, 2506 Jones Rd, Jacksonville, FL 32220.
Graveside: April 1, 2021 3:00pm. Mt. Olive Cemetery (Jena, Steinhatchee, FL)
