Loving husband, father, and grandfather, Jerome “Jerry” Paul Matsick, age 79, of Jacksonville, Florida, went home to be with Jesus his Savior October 24, 2020.
Jerry was preceded in death by his wife, Bobbie “Carolyn” Matsick; parents, William Paul Matsick and Ann Persin Matsick; brother Timothy Matsick.
Jerry is survived by his son, David Matsick and wife Sheri of Jacksonville, Florida; grandchildren Eric, Kerry, and McKenzi; and extended family who knew him as “Peepaw.”
Jerry was born in Monongahela, Pennsylvania, on September 13, 1941. Following his graduation from Donora High School in 1959, he worked a short time for the Heinz ketchup company until he enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1965. He served on the aircraft carrier, the USS Shangri-La, that was stationed out at the Mayport Naval Base in Jacksonville, FL, until receiving an Honorable Discharge in 1969. He met his beloved wife, Carolyn, at First Baptist Church Jacksonville, and they married on February 6, 1970, having their only child and son, David, in 1972. Jerry was an accountant for several businesses in Jacksonville and served in the ministry at three local Baptist churches in town. He was known for his love of model trains, playing the organ, and his passion for the Steelers, Penn State, and Florida Gator football.
The funeral service will be held graveside at Trinity Baptist Church, Gethsemane Memorial Gardens, 800 Hammond Boulevard, Jacksonville, Florida 32221, 3:00 p.m., Friday, October 30, 2020. Viewing will be held at 2:15 p.m. graveside at Gethsemane Memorial Gardens.

I had the privilege of serving in ministry with Jerry, Bro Mat as we called him at Madeira Baptist church. We had some good times. I always enjoyed waking into church and seeing him at the organ playing and smiling. He loved Jesus and his family. He will be missed. Until we meet again.
