Laura Louvenia Williams Roberts was born August 3, 1952 in Jacksonville, to parents Ethel and Frank Williams. She passed into heaven on Saturday September 3, 2022. Laura had a strong faith in her Lord. She accepted Jesus as her Savior as a child and grew spiritually through her life.
After graduating from Paxon High School in 1970, she attended Georgia Baptist Hospital School of Nursing and graduated in 1973 as a Registered Nurse. Returning to Jacksonville, she began her nursing career at St. Vincent’s Hospital.
In October 1975, she married Ronald Kent Roberts and they soon moved to Melbourne, Florida. Laura worked at Holmes Regional Medical Center in Melbourne while Ron was a student at Florida Institute of Technology. When Ron received his Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering in 1979, Laura received her PHT (Putting Hubby Through) Certificate. Laura continued her nursing career, retiring in 1998.
Laura served as President of the Melbourne Municipal Band Auxiliary for ten years while Ron played clarinet in the band. She received the Paul Scott Award in 2009 for Outstanding Performance as Auxiliary President
Some of her other activities were church librarian, caring for others with medical needs, taking friends and neighbors for doctor appointments, and running errands for them. She was very involved in family history by coordinating family reunions, researching the Lane Family back to the 1600’s, and also locating relatives we had lost contact with over the years. Laura also spent time counseling cancer patients, giving them knowledge and hope.
Ron says her Crowning Achievement was raising their two fantastic kids, Cyndi and Eric.
Laura’s first journey with breast cancer was in 1998. God healed her completely. Then in 2015, a new primary tumor was discovered that had already metastasized.
Laura was preceded in death by her father, Frank Williams; her brother Duane Williams, and her niece Effie Williams Ratley.
She is survived by her husband, Ron; daughter, Cynthia Barden (Tim); son, Eric Roberts; mother, Ethel Williams; brother, Scott Williams; grandchildren, Abby, Lydia, Isaac, and Josiah Barden, and LeAnn Roberts; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Melbourne municipal band would be greatly appreciated. www.mmband.org
