Robert “Bob” Chester Loewen, age 80, passed away from complications related to COVID on January 16, 2021, in Middleburg, Florida. He was born on June 22, 1940, in Mobile, Alabama, to Arthur and Helen but grew up in Chickasaw, Alabama. Bob was the oldest of 7 children. Bob entered the Navy in 1956. During his naval career, Bob was an Aviation Ordnanceman and was also in Explosive Ordnance Disposal. He then retired as a Senior Chief Petty Officer – E8 in December 1980 after being stationed in many different places in the US and around the world. He went on to attend Florida Junior College in Jacksonville, Florida, where he was a member of the Phi Theta Kappa Honors Fraternity in 1983. Bob was also published in “Who’s Who among Students in American Junior Colleges” from 1983-1984 for his outstanding academic record and his volunteer work with the Spina Bifida Association. In May 1984, he graduated with honors, earning an Associate in Arts degree. From 1985 to 1990, Bob was the Plant Manager of Atlantic Ice in Jacksonville, Florida. Then in 1997, he became a Valve Tech contractor and worked at nuclear power plants in various locations around the US until 2005 when he retired. Bob was an avid diver and always enjoyed telling stories, discussing cars, and helping people fix things. He loved to fish, go off in his RV, hunt, travel, and tell people about Jesus. Bob is survived by his loving wife Judy and stepdaughter Christine (and the late Neil) Mitchell. His siblings are: Len (Judy) Loewen, both deceased; Cindy (Jim) Parks; Rick James (deceased); Roger (Judy) James, both deceased; Scott James; Sally (Michael) Sowers; and Larry (Roberta) Heffley. Bob has the following nieces and nephews: Susan White; David (Aja) Parks; Michelle (Casey) Burge; Melissa Sowers; Amanda Sowers; Amie Sowers; SherryAnn Dally; Dean (Pam) Heffley; Doyle (Kellie) Heffley; and Shellylee (David) Yeakel. Bob was a loyal husband and provided for his family. He will be truly missed. Services will be held on Wednesday, January 27, 2021. Viewing will start at 11 am at First Baptist Church of Maxville, Florida, followed by a memorial service at 12 noon which will be led by Joey Nolan. Graveside service will be at 2 pm at the Jacksonville National Cemetery in Jacksonville, Florida.
