Thomas Winford Newsome, age 65, passed away on Sunday, January 23, 2022. He was born in Jacksonville on September 1, 1956 to the late Gibson Winford and Doris Newsome. Growing up in Jacksonville, Tom attended Paxon High School. He married Malinda Ann Nobles on August 6, 1973. Tom enjoyed a long career in the construction industry after service in the United States Air Force. He also was dedicated to his community helping found Westside Athletic Association in 1985 and coaching youth baseball and Pop Warner football for 37 years. Through this work, he won a Pop Warner national championship in football, several city championships in both football and baseball, and helped several youth attend college, start their own business, and become contributing and successful members of their community. Tom is survived by his wife, Malinda, his children, Billy Newsome (Sarah) and Scott Newsome (Inemesit), his four grandchildren, Megan Newsome, Amber Newsome, Isabella Newsome, and Walter Newsome, and his sister, Helen Branch.

He was the only Dad who would play sports with us as kids and it meant so much having an extra father figure who could teach us good sportsmanship.

Tom Tom was like another father to me. He taught me a lot about pavers and life. He is just an all-around great friend and a great guy! I am so going to miss his smiling face and quick wit. I do have some peace knowing that I will one day see him in heaven. I love you, Tom!
